'This Land is Your Land' (Festivals, Schools K-6/7)
Peter & Mary are proud to offer their much talked about 'This Land is Your Land' show for Festivals and Elementary Schools; loved by teachers and students alike. Performances take the children on a highly interactive musical tour across Canada, learning a little of each Province on the way. Between musical segments, social studies is fun with flags, maps, and questions and answers with a roving mic. Background is given on each song performed and, as in all programmes, participation, involvement and spontaneity are very important factors. In addition to live music (guitars, vocals, banjo, keyboards), the show includes 'MeMe', the ventriloquist puppet; 'Art', the magic drawing board, and a student jug band to close. Cue cards are put up for the choruses; the whole atmosphere is both educational and fun. Length of programme is 1 hour; teacher's aid sheets are provided which include song lyrics and background information to be presented in the performance.

'This Land is Your Land' has already been performed over 275 times in the Province of Alberta alone!

'Planet Kindness' / 'Nature Sings'
We are very excited about our new programme called 'PLANET KINDNESS'. This musical programme has a *"breeze of the whole wide world in it", designed to assist students in sharing and caring not only for the planet but also for themselves, for each other and for other species. The show involves students taking an interactive musical trip, where they will hear songs that have been written especially for this performance. These include many different rhythms, like 'Jambo, Jambo, Jambo' with its African beat (several students help to make up a jug band), 'Make every day Earth Day' (Caribbean), 'Flying in my rocket' (echo song), 'Kindness for you and me' (World beat), 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' and 'Tread a little lighter', plus Kermit's version of the favourite 'You've got a friend in me'! The students will also have fun watching other ventriloquist puppets, (i.e. 'Verna the Vegetarian Vulture', and 'Dexter the smoke blowing dragon') and a couple of small illusions which are used as tools to get positive messages across, and show that we can each make a difference.

We have recently returned from Africa, where we are currently involved with projects to improve the lives of street children in Nairobi, Kenya. The performance illustrates the differences between the lifestyles of children in both countries. We have spent time with the Maasai tribe and will dress some students in traditional Maasai costumes, also teach and explain the traditional jumping dance, after which, a few male students will have the opportunity to try their skills. As organizers for many years of Canada's leading Earth Day festival, (Edmonton, where emphasis is put on the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle concept), and also as Alberta representatives for the Canadian Hunger Foundation/Partners in Rural Development, we have long wanted to put together a schools' performance to cover these vitally important topics. Plus we have a huge wealth of contacts for any subject that may need follow-up after our visit, and would be pleased to do this at any time.

'NATURE SINGS' a version of the above with a couple of different songs and emphasis on nature and wildlife.

*(Quote from Radio Berlin on the original music of 'Peter & Mary')
'Artists in Residency'

Our 'Planet Kindness' performance is offered in a greatly expanded form as an Artists in Residency programme. Students discuss in workshops the issues facing this planet and what we can do. Subjects include 'Endangered Species and Habitat Protection'; 'Saving the World's fresh water'; 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' (examples will include hands-on craft activities, such as making a puppet out of an old sock); 'School, home and environment'; 'Meet the challenge' Enviro Quiz; 'Bio-gas for the third world'; 'From Canada to Kenya'(compares lifestyles of children in a third world country, to that of ourselves, and discusses the issues they face). Students will learn songs, interact in skits, and will be involved in the presentation of the 'Planet Kindness' show, which concludes the residency. Whilst the residency aims at grades 2 - 6, many of the younger students will be invited to participate in the final show in the form of a jug band. More in depth details of this residency upon request.

'Sing Together; Play Together' (Pre-School - Grade 3)
This show teaches students and pre-schoolers basic rhythm and timing, plus the building of confidence and self esteem through performance. Interactive fun with live music, magic and puppets. Sing on the microphone and also help 'Ollie' the Fox to create a rhyming song in which all can participate.
